Billington Cartmell, Brave and Closer Live :: Technical Director

I was appointed Technical Director of Billington Cartmell (www.bcl.co.uk), their sister adverting agency, Brave (www.brave.co.uk) and their experiential arm, Closer (www.closerlive.co.uk) in January 2012. The group of companies between them represent a phenomenal array of leading clients including Carlsberg, Panasonic, Sennheiser, Philips, Unilever, Kraft, GSK, Lexus, Morrisons and Ernst & Young.

PotNoodle :: Spinning Fork Banner and Facebook Campaign

Whilst working at Billington Cartmell I was responsible for numerous campaigns for their lead client, Unilever. Pot Noodles hugely successful Spinning Fork campaign, the product that makes the easiest of meals even easier, generated awareness and desire through a fully integrated support campaign, including digital & mobile advertising targeted at a youth audience. I was responsible for overseeing both the design phase from a UX perspective, ensuring the compatibility of assets with both the Flash and HTML5 formats, and then the actual development. The HTML5 banners were build using Celtra. In addition we also produced a simple Facebook App for redeeming your on pack codes, the entire App was built using our framework.

Surf :: Gorgeous Laundrette Facebook App and Banners

At Billington Cartmell, we created a Gorgeous Laundrette Facebook Game based in Flash in which surfers were put in charge of a male model, Danny, who was at their every whim.  I was involved throughout the entire process from signing off the concepts pre-client, to writing the technical specifications,  working out costs, and managing both the Flash and  Php development and QA on the project. The app was, as usual, built upon my WordPress based framework ensuring maximum build efficiency and cost-effectiveness. In addition I was also responsible for seeing the game ported to Flash teaser banners to be served on the DoubleClick network.

PotNoodle :: 'Easy Street' Facebook Game

Whilst working at Billington Cartmell I was responsible for overseeing numerous Facebook campaigns and apps for their lead client, Unilever. PotNoodle’s ‘Easy Street’ Facebook App was a selection of flash-based games with a retro, binary feel. Players competed for prizes by aggregating highest scores on a leaderboard and then sharing their positions. This project was part outsourced.

St Ives :: 'Bare to Dare' Facebook Campaign

Whilst at Billington Cartmell I was responsible for many Facebook Campaigns for their lead client, Unilever. The St Ives ‘Bare to Dare’ campaign was a two stage campaign that featured almost naked male models revealing all for the first part, then inviting ‘real women’ to take and share a picture of themselves without make up. I technically drove the entire project from conception to delivery and areas of importance included the rejection of the initial concepts on feasibility grounds, advising the video shoot on how to maximise footage captured by using a non-linear approach to the outputted content, resolving the technical mechanic of how visitors translated to revealing the models and overseeing the build and code use within both the flash front end and php back-end.

Dove :: Stay Colourful Facebook App

Dove is a client of Billington Cartmell and the Stay Colourful Facebook App required a Wordpress based Php back-end for storing and sharing of the pictures coupled with an advanced flash front end for the Filters and File Management. I was responsible for overseeing the freelance flash development and ensuring the the Php back-end was written in a modular way ensuring its portability into the in-house code WordPress framework that i had initiated for future ease of reuse.

Dove :: TV Advert to Shopping Basket via Mobile

Whilst Technical Director at Billington Cartmell i spent considerable time assisting the Innovation Team in cutting edge, first to market solutions. One of these was a hybrid concept bringing together a range of pre-existing technologies to produce a compelling synergy. The idea was simple, watch a TV advert for something you like, hold up your phone, identify the video in real-time (far quicker that reading an audio file via Shazzam for instance) and trigger a response or ultimately send the item seamlessly to your preferred supermarkets shopping basket for your next online shop. I was responsible for writing the technical specifications, researching the hi-tech partners technologies and SDKs, writing the scope of work and liaising with the proposed client, Unilever on the matter.

Dove :: Flash Bug solving & ActionScript assistance

Working over a weekend from home to resolve numerous issues within a flash site that was due to launch at 9 am on the following Monday. All issues were either resolved or if there wasn’t time an explanation was supplied for how to fix the issue that their developers could address the next week.
