fdcbusplanHaving attempted University, I left to set up my own publishing company – The Funky Directory Company (FDC). FDC’s first title “On the Road 2000”, essentially a woman’s guide to cars, was booked for insertion in all the top women’s magazines – Vogue, Elle, Cosmo, Red and New Woman. It was relatively easy to convince the advertisers to advertise (how else do you target 1 million women readers about cars, especially at a significantly lower rate than it’d cost to have space in any of the magazines individually) and the cost of inserting the magazine was far less than our own advertising sales revenues. Simple really… As with small businesses cash was king and we failed to secure the necessary investment required both to continue the hard work and to pay for our print run. Undeterred, I pressed ahead with taking FDC to a more virtual, existence and started looking into the internet. I installed PhotoShop3, DreamWeaver 1 and Flash 3 and got cracking… Many years later, here I am…
